Scratch and Handicap Brackets
- Cost: $5.00 per bracket (can enter as many brackets as you want or are available)
- Sign up: At Bowling Center 30 minutes prior to start of any Singles/Doubles or Team shift
"What is a bracket?"
Brackets are eight-person, match play, single-game elimination mini-tournament that runs concurrently with tournament play. A bowler can enter one or more brackets, but can only enter once in each bracket. The eight bowlers in each bracket are randomly assigned to four single game matches using games 1 thru 3. First game scores determine the first round winners. Those four bowlers advance to round two, where the second game score determines who advances to the final round. In the final round, third game score determines the bracket winner.
"Why handicap brackets?"
In each round of each bracket, you only have to beat one opponent. For handicap brackets, you don’t necessarily have to bowl the highest score each game to make money. Scratch brackets are based on scratch scores only; handicap brackets are based on scratch scores plus enter tournament entering average handicap.

1 to 4 cash ratio in every bracket. 25% of entrants in each bracket cash! With handicap added to each game, a lower average bowler still has a good chance of winning. Win two rounds and double your money! |
"Where do I sign up!"?
Bracket sign-ups close at the beginning of each tournament shift (SD1, SD2, SD3, ... ; T1, T2, T3, ...). You can sign up at the service counter until brackets are closed (normally at the start of the first game). All brackets are computerized and printouts of each bracket will be posted after each game. Brackets with seven entries will have a "bye" entry. You can enter as many brackets as you want at the beginning of each tournament shift.
Payout will occur at conclusion of Singles/Doubles and Team shifts. Winner of each bracket receives $25, second place receives $10, and remaining $5 goes to tournament prize fund. We hope that you will have lots of fun with brackets.
Mega Brackets
- Cost: $10.00 per bracket (can enter as many times as you want or are available)
- Sign up: At Bowling Center 30 minutes prior to start of any Singles/Doubles shift
Different from eight-bowler brackets (described above), mega brackets involve 64 bowlers per bracket. Handicap scores from Singles and Doubles event scores (six games) are used to determine the bracket winners for the six rounds per bracket. Those that bowl well (with handicap scores) can win and win big in the very popular optional event.
Mega brackets registration fees must be paid just before or during the first game of your scheduled Singles shift. IGBO will not permit advanced sign up at Hotel Registration. Payout will occur at conclusion of Singles/Doubles Shift.
Dark-Horse Doubles
- Cost: $2.00 per mystery score drawn (can enter as many times as you want or are available)
- Sign up: At Hotel Registration only. Dark-Horse Doubles sign up NOT available at bowling centers. You must be signed up and paid in full prior to throwing first ball in tournament.
At tournament registration, you can choose to participate in the Dark-Horse Doubles optional event. All IGBO Tournament registrants will be randomly assigned a secret number prior to registration. You (the paying participant) will draw a number (which identifies the mystery bowler you will be playing with). You will not know who your dark-horse (mystery) partner bowler is. At the end of the tournament, your Doubles event scores will added with your mystery participant's Doubles event scores. Dark-Horse Doubles event winners will determined by the top combined scores—just like the traditional Doubles event. Only paying bowlers will receive cash pay outs, if qualified. Mystery bowlers will not receive pay outs. (Essentially, mystery bowlers help you—the paying bowler—win more event money!)
Monetary prizes will be given in high doubles handicap series, and high doubles scratch games.
Mystery Score
- Cost: $3.00 per mystery score drawn (can enter as many times as you want or are available)
- Sign up: At Bowling Centers 30 minutes prior to start of each set of three games (Singles, Doubles, and Team).
Before each three-game set, a bowler can pay $3.00 ($1.00 per game) to shift captain or optional events lead for that shift. At the end of each game, scratch bowling scores would be drawn and announced until someone, who had entered that three-game set, reports that they bowled that scratch score. To report the score, they must bring up their recap sheet. Payout is 50% of collected money per three-game set and paid at conclusion of set. Rest of money collected goes to tournament prize fund.
